Educational Toys | Early Birds Program Helps Parents Make The Most Of Early Years
“We know that children are born learning and their brains are wired for growth and development, but we need that environment to stimulate growth and development,” said Stacy Dykstra , executive director of Smart Start Central Oklahoma .
That’s why her organization has unveiled a homegrown program to educate parents how to make the most of their time with children 5 years old and younger.
Early Birds provides parents with educational toys and books and suggestions on how to use play time to help babies and toddlers learn. Whether it’s at the kitchen table, in the car, at the grocery store or in the bath tub, opportunities abound to advance young children’s minds.
The first courses this fall are for any parents in the Oklahoma City School District . Early Birds kicks off today at Capitol Hill Elementary School . A second session is Tuesday at Ridgeview Elementary School. Space is still available in both classes, and thanks to corporate and private donations the classes are free.
Smart Start has also partnered with three other school districts – Western Heights, Midwest City – Del City and Putnam City – to bring Early Birds classes to parents. Courses will be available this October in those school districts.
Smart Start Central Oklahoma had offered the READY! for Kindergarten program for five years before creating the Oklahoma-centric curriculum of Early Birds. This is the first full year that Early Birds will be offered and it aligns its instruction with Oklahoma’s academic standards.
“When parents are doing an activity with their 2-year-old, they know that it is something the child will need in kindergarten,” Dykstra said.

Discovery Toys are awesome! It's better to order them from an individual than from the company headquarters. That way you have a person to communicate with directly. Here's a good link to use:
Click "Shop Products" in the upper right part of the page.

Her children are too young to be asking for fast food. Once their school friends introduce them to it it will be a different story. I work in the child care industry and soooooo many times I hear parents talk about what they won't allow: fast food, TV & videos. Trust me – they do not last LOL Before long those kids are infront of the tv with a bag of sweets !!!!!!
I've also heard parents-to-be say their kids will only have 'educational toys'. Oh please…

Byakuka(are you a Bleach fan?),I know exactly what you are talking about!I got some for babysitting, and I love 'em.You can buy them online(I will show you the site),but if you choose not to,there are actually stores that are called,''Discovery Toys''.If you go to map quest, type in your address and when they ask you about businesses, type in Discovery Toys, you can probably find one in your state. If not, then, buy them online.I know they have a store in NC,and it's actually very near me,but I'm not sure if they have them wherever you live. Site; Hope you and your son have fun!
