Educational Toys | Four Toys R Us ‘pop-up’ Stores Open Here
Toys “R”Us has opened four Express stores in the region for the upcoming holiday season, with more possibly to come.
According to the toy retailer’s web site, the 4,000-square-foot storesare open in vacant mall space at Florence Mall , Tri-County Mall and Cincinnati Premium Outlets in Monroe, and in Fairfield Township’s Bridgewater Falls . Additional stores could be added through early November, said Jennifer Albano, a senior manager of corporate communications with the company.
All stores will remain through the end of 2010.
Toys”R”Us announced its plans to open 600 of these short-term ‘pop-up’ stores yesterday, more than doubling its national store footprint. Of those, 300 have already begun selling. The retailer had a much smaller initiative last year, opening about 90 of thesmall stores. Many of those stayed open throughout 2010. Eight stores in outlet centers like Cincinnati Premium Outlets became permanent locations for the retailer.
The stores offer a selection of toy favorites, dolls, games, action figures and educational toys at a variety of prices. They also offer gift cards for purchase.
According to a company news release, more than 10,000 associates will be hired throughout the holiday season to staff the new stores. Information on those positions can be found at:

The Benefits Of Educational Toys
Today it seems like a natural part of life for children to watch TV and play video games all day. However, Unless the television show is an educational show that won't bore the child, or the video game is one that involves a certain degree of strategy, they're not getting too much out of these activities. More importantly, they are not using their imaginations which is very important to do in the world we live in today.
Studies dating back as early as 1940 have shown that a child's IQ can be increased by more than 50 points through the proper stimulation in the first 6 years of life. Your child already has certain natural skills, but you can help further develop those skills through the power of play with the right developmental toys and educational games. You possess the power to help improve your child's skills such as memory retention, reading skills, motor skills, eye-hand coordination and math skills.
There are a variety of educational toys that are available for children as soon as they are able to grab things. An educational toy can be something as simple as a puppet or matching shapes. These toys prompt the child to think and the colorful pieces that come with these toys make the activity interesting. What can makes these activities even more beneficial is when the parent is involved and takes time to praise the child when he or she is successful.
The most important factor in selecting learning toys for your children is choosing a toy that is appropriate for your child's age. You should start by determining the child's current developmental needs, both physically and emotionally. Then, look for the educational toys that are appropriate for your child's stage of development.
For example, an infant that is just beginning to learn to focus and grasp things with their hands would benefit from a toy that develops hand-eye coordination. Toddlers, on the other hand, would require toys that focus on stacking and pulling, pre-dressing, and language basics.
Years ago, toy manufacturers started out by making educational toys that covered everything from preschool through high school. These toys confused some children and did not appeal to most. However, through the years, the top educational toy makers started to make better use of research and technology, and have done quite a good job creating quality educational toys and learning games targeted to a child's age group and skill level.

Indeed vivy, the process of parenting doesn't end at three – this hype/trend/whatever that our little ones are 'programmed' for life by age three is quite tiresome frankly
its a great journey our children are all on and its not simply framed up by a few flashcards, overpriced PisherFice “educational” toys and forcefed homework to two year olds…its not rocket science to make rocket science – simply be there for your kids and at the dinner table and for tuck in time…and share the wonder of growing up with your children.

Well said! I'll have to check this book out. Contrasting development and modernization makes the issues so clear. Mere modernization is like a parent who chooses to give their child lots of great toys (even educational toys) but never teaches them life-skills or builds their character. Or if your math teacher shows you how to work a calculator but never teaches you to add.
I pray the Lord will give us wisdom as an organization how to invest our diverse resources (spiritual, financial, time, man-power, emotional…) – into things that truly develop the individuals and communities that we influence, whether Haitian or foreign.
Thanks to you and Danielle for the investment of heart, spirit and mind that you are making in Haiti.

I am native-born Russian.
1. Yes, we have iPods, lcd TVs, cell phones, everything. Except Apple computers and other Apple paraphernalia because frankly Apple isn't very popular.
2. No, because in the US I have much more opportunities for a better education at the world's top universities.
3. Yes, I would.
4. The educational system is much stricter, the material is more difficult and given in large amounts. If you don't do your homework, you copy it from some braniac that does.
5. I'd have a pretty good future. I'd go study abroad in say England or the US, or graduate a top university in Moscow. I'd work as a software engineer and move to the US later.
