Educational Toys | Norwell Has A New Bookstore: An Interview With Books And More Owner Jay Phillips
Name: Jay Phillips
Business/Address: Books & More, 412 Washington St. Located on the left side of building complex, in the warehouse.
How long have you been in business for? Three days in Norwell (as of Monday’s interview), but he had a store in Carver, and has been working with books his whole life.
What does your business offer to the community? We offer great books by great publishers. You can find some really good titles here and they are all discounted 50-70 percent. We also have an extensive children’s collection as well as educational toys, and we have lots of adult books too. It’s a bookstore in a warehouse setting and when people come in they are surprised by what we have in here.
Goals? I’d like to see the store succeed. The world of bookselling has changed, and so I’m trying to go in a new direction-having a bookstore in a warehouse.
What do you like best about Norwell? The proximity to the South Shore and to Boston. And my first impression was the people were very friendly.Â
Best day of your life? Well, I have three days because I have three kids.
Favorite season? Fall, I love apple picking.
Favorite holiday? Flag day.
Favorite junk food? Pop tarts.
Favorite music? Satellite radio.
Favorite book? “One Hundred Years of Solitude” by Gabriel Garcia Marquez and anything by John D MacDonald.
Last book you read? “Any Given Day” by Dennis Lehane.
How do you feel about iPads and Kindles? I love them. I‘m all for technology. I mean books are sentimental, they are always going to be around, but the iPads and Kindles are fine for what they’re used for.
Store hours?’ Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and on Sundays, from 12-5 p.m.
