Educational Toys | Toys That Teach
Things have moved on a little since our day when alphabet building blocks were all the rage. The teaching toys of 2010 are a lot more sophisticated and we can’t help but be a teensy bit jealous that we didn’t have the same gadgetry to play with.
We especially liked the new Leapfrog Explorer which is a hand held gaming toy (think Nintendo DS but green and curvy) which incorporates e-books, games and videos, all enhanced with educational value, so your kids can improve their maths, reading, science knowledge and creativity, all skillfully hidden under the pretext of play. Brilliant!
The gadget is refreshingly simple to use and whilst a little on the indulgent side, at 59.99 this is a toy that can be shared and enjoyed again and again. You can even upload their learning progress to a computer and reward your little one with a certificate for jolly good work!
LeapFrog learning toys are available from Argos .

It sounds like fun, but don't stress out too much on how to set it up because in the end the dress up will be in the grocery store, the dolls in the construction site and the microphone lost the the book nook.

It is my feeling that there is plenty of time for learning “educational” stuff, and that much of that comes from other activities, anyhow, like readign aloud, which I know you do, answering their questions, and having alphabet puzzles/ magnets/ blocks around as well as lots of stuff for imaginative play. I totally don't subscribe to the idea of feeding your child flash cards or using “educational” toys. Stimulation comes in lots of different forms, and play that includes physical play and imaginative play will provide tons of goodness.
