See they want to be just like you, so why not comply with their want. Children have inquisitive little minds that thirst for knowledge. Step up to the plate and give them what they crave.
Actively Participate – In keeping with the first suggestion, step two is very important. Don’t just sit on the sidelines watching what your children are doing; jump in there with them. Observation is good; participating is better. Notice what your child is interested in and become a part of it. If the child likes to play with animals get out books that have animals as the main characters and read it to your child. Use your voice to make the sounds of the animals. Point out the color and size of the animals. Talk about what is happening on the page along with reading the words. This makes the book come alive to your kids and helps with comprehension skills. Be prepared for a repeat performance of your talent children tend to want to hear the same story many times. Oblige them; it means you did a good job and kept their attention. This also is a way of building long term memory skills which is all part of the learning process. Using these simple acts can aid with your children’s learning activities.
Make Learning Fun – Kids love games and playtime is an extremely important developmental tool to use when helping children learn. Parents often only think of educating their kids in the formal sense. Remember we are trying to foster the idea of loving to learn. Get your kids excited about learning by introducing things in a fun way. Use what is around your home to challenge your children. For example ask your child to point out where all the blue objects in the kitchen are found. Count out loud the number of things you find. Tell them how smart they are and give them a hung for finding that many things. Then allow them to take a turn with you picking out the items of another color. Have the children keep count. You’ve just made a connection to learning both numbers and colors. This has also helped your child to become more aware of their surroundings and taught them something in a fun way.
