Obama Fuels Education With Tuition Reimbursement For Teachers

With our country falling behind in education level the government is doing its part to stimulate the education system as well as the economy. In the latest 2011 budget request, the Obama administration has laid out its goal of carrying forward key teacher-effectiveness policies within the economic and stimulus law into the next edition of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. By doing this, the budget proposal would invest heavily in competitive grants for new ways of recruiting, training, evaluating, and compensating teachers and principals. This should dramatically shrink the amount of teacher quality funding given out, and create more jobs for qualified applicants.

The increase the number of school districts that benefit from a federal program that supports performance pay for teachers. The Teacher Incentive Fund currently supports 34 grant recipients at a cost of $97 million this year and another $200 million was allocated through the economic-stimulus plan. President Obama said he’d like to see as many as 150 districts added. Obama proposal to pay math and science teachers more in hopes of filling the recruitment gap. He said a small additional payment will not change the financial calculations of math and science graduates who have more lucrative options than teaching.
In addition to teachers recieving more benefits, teachers aides will also be helped by this.

In the past, teachers aides were not required to have complete certification and could not rise to better jobs. In the new proposal grant funds will be available for teachers aides who want to become fully certified teachers without having to pay for their education out of pocket.
