Cash Health Plans Versus Private Health Imsurance
The main differences between general medical insurance and cash health plans can seem confusing at first; although in reality it is fairly simple. With a cash health plan cash is paid out if you are taken to hospital for treatment or to the dentist or opticians. Often cash health plans also allow you to receive treatments such as alternative therapies, acupuncture and physiotherapy. Cash health plans are aimed to cover the cost of every day health expenses rather than for serious or ongoing illness treatment.
Generally cash health plans encourage the policy holder to receive early treatment and sort out any small health/ dental or optical problems before they become more prominent. Some plans offer extra privileges such as home help after illness, critical illness and injury cover and help towards funeral expenses.
Cash health plans are usually paid monthly via direct debit.
There are many differences between medical insurance and medical insurance. Medical insurance will help pay towards a both treatment and operations as well as sourcing the treatment for you, a cash health care plan will not.
When they first arrived on the market cash health plans were just for basic use in hospitals, before the NHS was founded. In recent times they have become much more useful and are now in place t help the cost of a wide range of health care treatments.
Cash health plans have a number of restrictions that separate them from standard health insurance policies. They generally only help pay towards the cost of treatment, it is up to the policy holder to source the treatment.
Generally cash health plans do not provide cover for all health care expenses and they do have a capped limit of which you can spend annually. It is not uncommon to have to pay into the policy for between three and six months before qualifying to begin making use of the policy.

Young adults often delay marriage so they can stay on their parents’ health plans, or opt out of coverage altogether (30% of married 19-25 year olds lack health insurance). The narrow definitions of family used by most employer health plans mean that a married child is no longer considered to be part of the employee’s family and therefore can’t be covered, even if they can’t afford coverage on their own. NY's law should prohibit employers and insurers from automatically terminating the family status of child who marries or forms a domestic partnership.
