Fort Campbell High School Receives Federal Grant Money

The federal government has given grant money for school districts in Clarksville-Montgomery County near Fort Campbell. Race to the Top grant money will be used to finance the STEM academy at Kenwood High school which is located about six miles east of the Fort Campbell Eastern boundary and just four miles north of Clarksville, TN.

The STEM Academy has been created to implement ground-breaking programs with an emphasis on the sciences, new technologies, engineering, and mathematical education. Tennessee is one of only two states that are receiving this grant, and the surrounding area will then receive over one million dollars over the course of four years.

This STEM program also gets a donation of $50,000 from Dow Corning Foundation, parent company of Hemlock Semiconductor LLC, to purchase and integrate new equipment. The STEM Academy has been established at Kenwood High and chosen because of its location and its capacity for expansion within the facility. This program adds considerable prestige and value to the communities surrounding Fort Campbell.

This program is a pilot created to help intelligent students from all over the district in math and science disciplines by allowing them to have a hands-on approach to learning. They will be presented with challenges in the field of solar energy as well as being taught problem solving techniques. This will be beneficial to these students in all facets of their education. This will provide the students with real world practice, which is something that is not characteristically found in normal high schools.

This provides a unique opportunity for Fort Campbell parents and their children, especially those who have interests in math and science. Kenwood high school is just one of several schools serving the Fort Campbell area. If one is planning on a visit to this area and he or she has a student with keen math and science skills, one should consider moving his or her family. The AFRS at FortCampbell.GoArmyHomes.com can help.

Gina, have you seen the show beyond clips on the internet?
I think it's great that SA is getting a shout out on a buzzed about television show. It's a great show. But I agree that high schools wouldn't be able to perform it even if it were licensable. It's subject matter, while written in 1897, is way to controversial for today's high schools. Too many religious, conservative crackpots would cry foul.

Hey Rhianna,

Thank you for all the great information about 3ECOE. I've seen the water bottle filling stations you mentioned in the Hub, but I had no idea your club was behind it. I think the water bottle stations would be a neat idea to bring to high schools as well; that way students wouldn't just have to rely on water fountains. Have you ever seen them being used in high schools or anywhere public in general?

It used to be when a young man wanted to talk to a young girl, one way would be to talk about the weather to get the conversation started…that's all that was meant to be…..

Completely different.

A "high school" in the US is secondary school. For about ages 13-17 or 18.

UCLA is a university. You attend this after high school. This is where you get a bachelors degree.

To attend North Hollywood High School, you simply have to live in the school district and in it's area where it gets students. THen, if you're the right age and educational level, you can go there. No other requirements really. The equivalent in France is a combination of the collèges and the lycées.

UCLA is a college. It is higher education. You have to apply to be admitted. Your grades and standardized test scores must be VERY high to be accepted. An equivalent French school would be the Université de Paris.
