How Buy Art Supplies for your Classroom that Are Environmentally Friendly
When you buy art supplies for your students you want to go green. The process is easier than you might think. You should allow children the freedom to make art work so that is creative.
However, some art supplies are unsafe for kids to use. When you go green in your classroom art supplies, they must also be safe. This also means buying art supplies that don’t harm the environment.
Try to use recycled products when you can. This is a great way to share with kids how to use many items again and again. You should be able to get all types of paper in a recycled form.
Look for products that use oil or plants for coloring such as crayons. You want to avoid paints or other items that contain toxic ingredients in them. The ventilation in your class may not be the best. Try to use those that are made from all natural ingredients.
Even colored pencils and drawing pencils can be wonderful art supplies for your classroom. Make and effort to buy art supplies that are made from environmentally friendly wood materials. You will find a wide variety of them out there that can be used.
Hemp is also a reliable source of green classroom art supplies. Any environmentally friendly school supplies should be free of bleach and dangerous dyes. You can even create your own edible play dough too that is earth friendly. With this kind of clay your class can make an art project, play with it, and then eat it!
It does not have to be expensive either to buy green art supplies for your classroom. Try to encourage other teachers as well as your entire school to go this route. It sets a wonderful example for children and for their parents.
You will discover many green school art supply companies available. They can provide you with everything that you need.
When shopping for classroom supplies, look no further than Teacher’s School Supply.

Frederick Douglass shows that the better educated someone is the more the idea of slavery of any kind becomes abhorrent
This is why the slave owners – particularly those in the southern states did all they could to prevent their "goods" even learning how to read and write and placed all sorts of obstacles in the way of true equality for all men (which after all is part of the founding fathers aims and 230 years on is still not fully achieved)

my info says he is already fired. his contract isn't out until 2010 or 2011. How much is it going to cost the state to get rid of him. Over 4 million?? That little piece of change would buy lots of educational supplies…

I grew up in North Beach just a few blocks from Fisherman's Wharf. My grandparents were immigrants from Italy. My grandfather was a fisherman for many years off the coast and he would go also to Alaska for crab seasonally. My smells are naturally fishy. When I the smell sea air, the tide or seaweed, I think of home.
Also the smell of polished wood. Our school and church was (is still) an old building rife with wooden pews, classroom furniture and and the nuns kept it shiny and spotless. I wonder if they still do. I don't think there are enough nuns left. That place is huge.
Lastly, fermented grapes – because we had a huge oak barrel that my grandfather used to make wine in the garage, if you could call it wine. It was more like grapa. That barrel stuck up the whole garage area, so when I went outside in back, that smell was always there.
Those are just the ones that come to mind immediately.
Thanks for that. It was a nice trip back.

I am a college professor, born in England but living and working in the USA, at Emory University in Atlanta. I was commissioned to write the article for the _Chronicle of Higher Education_, whose main readership is college professors and administrators. They were the people I had in mind as my audience, but I always try to write as clearly as possible, so that all readers can understand what I have to say. I believe high school students and undergraduates should think about the issue rather than assume that the system we have is somehow necessarily the right one. It's a question about which reasonable people can (and do) disagree.

hey there,
I liked the fact that you mentioned the time-consuming preparation of lessons which are nm-supported. As we found out during the trip, the teacher has to find a really exciting taks to activate all students.
Additionally, it was good that again we got the confirmation that a good learning environment has a positive impact on the learner. I'm of the opinion that school should rather get a 2nd home character (e.g., liker in Finland) in order to enrich the respect for classroom's furniture and technical items such as computers, whiteboards, …
Interesting questions,
see you soon,
Marthe

Yes, it can. However, I feel that too many laws and too many social issue are getting in the way of teaching.
Unfortunately, schools don't solely teach anymore. Teachers have to deal with a lot of social issues that kids are facing. Everything from poverty, abuse, drugs, divorce, sexual abuse, bullying, health issues, etc. You name it, schools are dealing with it.
Teachers are now counselors, nurses, psychologists, etc. In the past, a student sat in a classroom and the teacher taught. Anything other "issues" were not spoken about.
Also, we now have laws such as "No Child Left Behind" which are hindering the educational process and widening the achievement gap.
There are quality public schools, but they are in towns were the average household income is more then 90K a year. They are not in working class or lower class areas. Those places don't have the resources to deal with all the social issues and all the academic issues.
Also, parents are becoming less and less accountable for their children's academics. Somewhere, parents started to believe that teachers and schools are solely responsible for their child's academic success. This is completely untrue. Parents need to be actively involved in order to make their child's educational process successful, productive and long-lasting.
Yes, quality education and public schools can happen. Schools, teachers, parents and the government need to start working together to make positive changes.
Teachers are only a small part of education. There are many other individuals who contribute (or don't contribute) to quality education.

If you wish to quote directly in the text, put the information in then put the author's last name and then the line from the article. In this case, you would put " There is no reason to believe it [the number of students enrolling] would not keep going up." (Lloyd #). Insert the line number for the # symbol.
See for more details.

> Have you looked at the proposed budget for 07-08? Total Expenditures are $117MM, Total Education is $70MM. And $142K is now going to the superintendent, who was just voted a 3.5% raise by BOE. I don't know about you, but I don't make that kind of $$. And doubt many in Enfield do. And how much more of the budget is going to the unionized teachers and staff? The majority of the ed budget goes to salaries. Not to books, computers, not to classroom furniture or maintaining existing structures and fields. You'd need how many new 55+ units just to compensate for education salaries?? I say cut these salaries and find more industries to shoulder the tax burden. And vote out those on current BOE. Enough of this taxing the little guys to death.]]>
