I will have to give Mel credit tho. She is college educated (or at least finishing college when this piece was shot) so bravo for her. At least you know she has less potential to drain the welfare system. Nothing makes me sadder and angry at the same time as single moms dependent/trapped in welfare and they keep having babies. I have to work twice as hard as single person paying for other peoples innability to use birth control. That really pisses me off!

There actually are legitimate reasons for daycare. Single moms with small children who need to work to feed them and pay for schooling? I'd say thats a legitimate reason. I don't agree with families who do it just so they can have time to themselves, if they wanted a family then they have to put in the time. But I think that in some situations where there is only one parent with small children, there sometimes is no other alternative.

Mom:
It's not a lot of help, but have you considered tapping the PLUS loan program for your teenager's college expenses? The PLUS loan (Parents' Loan for Undergraduate Students) would allow you to borrow up to his/her total unmet need.
I know you mentioned that your financial situation is dire, and that your credit history is less than stellar, but the approval criteria for the PLUS program are extremely lax. Thanks to the government guarantee on this loan (just like on the Stafford), an applicant can be approved for this loan when no other lender will approve them.
If you don't have foreclosures or bankruptcies, or a significant number of 90+ accounts, you are very likely to be approved.
There's an important secondary reason to apply for a PLUS:
If your application is denied, that, alone, qualifies your child to borrow between $4000 and $5000 more each year from the Stafford program.
It sounds like you're in a really dire straits, but a PLUS loan application could provide you with at least $4000 more to work with, and I'm sure that every little bit helps.
Best of luck to you – I hope this information provides at least some assistance to you, and I wish you the very best for a brighter financial future. Hang in there!

I would have agree with Tina…(funny I was just thinking this the other day while running my 8 yr old twins around)….they need a show with “REAL” Working moms…on the go..taking care of kids..house…chores…ect…all the things “REAL Housewives or working moms” do. These women have no clue what working women and also (me) single moms go through!

if your asking, yes you sound like a great mom. and i always thought the term single mom only meant that the father doesnt live in the house i never thought it held the milf title.
or i figured it meant that the father doesnt financialy support them so us "single mothers" have to do it. like when you file single or head of house hold on your taxes.

You can ask your fin aid office about getting a work study job. Work study is a form of fin aid that you get that doesn't need to be repaid and doesn't count against you when you apply for fin aid next year. It is just like a regular job but it is a part of your fin aid package. Your schools fin aid office will have a list of all the work study jobs available on campus. Usually it's min wage or a bit above and around 15-20 hours a week. You aren't going to get rich doing it, but it will give you some spending money to help you with living expenses and since you will be on campus already, it is usually a great fit for most.
