Single Mothers | Scholarship For Mothers Program Open To Illinois Residents

If you are planning to enroll at Northern Illinois University, and you’re a single mother, you can take advantage of the scholarship for the mother program. Like other universities in various states, there are certain programs aimed at mothers who want to pursue higher education. This is the key to getting a better job someday and so mothers like you need all the help.

One of the most notable scholarships that you can apply for is The Mothers Memorial Scholarship Fund. However, the application deadline for this year is already closed. There are eligibility requirements that you should know before you can submit an application.

Your GPA should be at least 2.5 for your junior or senior years. Applicants who completed at least one year at the university are eligible as well. Goals should be set and this should include education, support, advocacy, research, and policy-making. Take note that the end goal should improve women’s lives.

Interested applicants should get their application form at Room 103, the Women’s Studies Office located at Reavis Hall. The form can also be downloaded in PDF and Word format. Other requirements include transcript or transfer credits, recommendation letters (at least two), summary of goals consisting of 2 pages (should be double spaced), and list of related courses taken or jobs, volunteer work, and other relevant activities. The scholarship is valid for one year and the qualified recipient will be notified.

The university can provide you with great opportunities. You can be sure that it does not discriminate students. Whether you’re a single parent or a regular student, you can apply for a scholarship as long as you meet the requirements. Mothers who live in Illinois can opt to enroll at Northern Illinois University and other universities or colleges to receive assistance.

It would be impossible to pursue your college education, unless you come from a wealthy family. Most mothers today are living below the poverty line, and they can hardly provide for their children’s needs. Help yourself and your kids by pursuing higher education with the aid of a scholarship for the mother program. There is still hoped for a brighter future only if you know where to seek help.

Issa - Single Mama NYC @ 2:04 pm:

Wonderful points!

#3 is not always the case, however, as some single mothers (like myself) are forced, due to the Courts, to allow at the very least, visitations with the child(ren); other single mothers have joint custody and are forced to “co-parent” with often difficult, unreasonable exes. Dealing with the father, even if it's inconsistently, can be a source of stress for many single mothers.

Well that are all different kinds of single mothers. But in general I think that no mother should have to raise a child on her own if the child's father is perfectly sane and healthy living on this earth..
besides that it's not about a woman deserving a perfect father for that child..It's about the CHILD deserving a father!

Boarding schools can cost more than college. If you want your parents to send you, better get a full scholarship – because you probably can't expect them to pay $40,000 a year for someone you can get for free.
