The V Reader Animated Book or e-Book is a toy that allows interactive fun learning for kids aged 3 to 7 years and encourages their imaginations while they learn to read and add to their vocabulary.

First up don’t worry about this toy breaking, as it’s been built to put up with all the knocks and hits it’s bound to encounter in the hands of our youngsters – I.e. it’s built to last – the rubberized edges give a good deal of protection here.

This is interactive so pictures, animation and sound are the main ingredients and for that you need a story cartridge, one of which is is included and is more than enough to keep your youngsters engaged for a long time.

If you need more story cartridges they’re about $20 each, but the makers, V-tech, are going to introduce a ways of downloading free books in an Amazon Kindle like manner, so your initial investment in the toy definitely has a future.

These downloads are achieved by using the included USB cable connected to a computer, obviously an adult will need to do this.

The sounds and graphics are great and certainly good enough for keeping your kids amused, also, worth noting that there aren’t too many distractions on screen to take kids away from learning and following the stories.

The kids can watch a story which is narrated throughout, play reading games, learn more about lower-case and upper-case letters, rhyming, syllables and check out a dictionary with all the words used in the story.

Word recognition games are included, which are great for using a fun way to get words into the minds of youngsters and increase their vocabulary.

Other ways words are made more familiar to kids by associating the way they sound with the way they look and the letters that make up the words, is when you touch each word in the story and it is read out to you – very simple and very useful.

Compared to other competitors, I think this toy gets it about right in terms of balancing between fun and learning and can help to accelerate your youngsters’ learning and reading ability.

Downsides include the fact that batteries don’t last all that long and you need to buy separately, although you could use rechargeable batteries or plug in to the nearest mains socket, though you’d have to buy the adaptor separately.

In fact this is what you get in the box:  V.Reader device, V.Reader pen, V.Reader Storybook cartridge, soft cleaning cloth, USB cable, user’s manual.

All in all very happy with the V Reader Animated Book, it’s great for kids learning and adding to their vocabulary, it is durable and its library can be added to and updated as you go.
