Q&A: Is it better to buy fun toys or educational toys?

Question by Atreyu & Kyla’s Mommy: Is it better to buy fun toys or educational toys?
My son is 7 months old now and I’m just wondering if it is more important to find toys that are educational or that I know he will have fun with for a while? My husband and I are on a pretty strict budget and can’t always buy a lot of toys, so I want to get the best toys for the buck.

Educational toys are fun. Baby Einstein , Leap Frog , V Tech these brands all have toys that incorporate things like Disney and Sesame street. They light up and make noise, he’s a baby noise and lights define fun for babies.

Toys can be both educational and fun.
Most infant/toddler toys are. Good luck.

fizzybubbles @ 9:17 pm:

you can get toys that are both educational but fun too.

phillygirl505 @ 9:38 pm:

i find that a little bit of both is the answer….

You should try to find toys that are both. Lots of times a big box is a great toy. Get out the crayons to color, cut out a door, and a window. Get a new one for free when this one wears out

maegs33 @ 11:00 pm:

All toys are educational.

Really.

Toys are so that babies can figure out how to manipulate objects, work on motor skills, figure out spatial relationships, learn about gravity, and so on. ANY toy will accomplish that (well, other than baby DVDS.) Most of those expensive educational toys are nothing more than a rip off of well-meaning but gullible parents and grandparents.

A set of blocks, some stacking cups, those are the big hits.

Anyway, you might want to save your money and just buy more kitchen stuff, my babies were always more impressed with playing with wooden spoons, tupperware, and baking pans.

try a littl bit of both. We have lots of educational toys, but also a few play items. Really any toy is teaching the baby something. Be it simple as blowing bubbles with him or let him wach a work bench. He is always learning something. Also if you are on a tight budget, try shopping ebay. I got a lot of great baby einstein and fisher price toys in nearly new condition for half the price you would pay at a store. I always buy then on ebay, clean them up with some warm sudsy water, and save tons of money. Just do your research before buying anything (also goes for the store too). Make sure there is not a recall on the toy.

Both…kids learn from the ‘fun’ toys too.

shob_n @ 1:06 am:

Educational toys can be fun too..

Isis @ 1:53 am:

Well any toys that are made for babies are both fun and still help develop fundamental skills. even toy cars. You dont need to buy the baby Einstien toy collection because it will achieve the same purpose as the Hazbro toy collection. The baby Einstien is more of a marketing ploy then an actual tool for parents. So in the long run you want to buy some thing that your child can grow up with and have until (s)he is almost two. You can go to a website where you can browse toys by price. Its very helpful and you dont even have to order it online you could go to a toys r us and achive the same purpose!

Good luck!

educational toys
they have fun toys that educational they may cost more but it good to buy…
find toys that for his age… leap frog or vtech or fisher price..

Or start him or nursery rhymes
I have start my daughter on nursery rhymes and she love it and you can sing to her.. she only 6 month old..
I buy toys that is educational.
I only buy toys for her. if she is good and been good girl that whole month and she has something new to play..

PT @ 3:00 am:

Depends on what you mean by educational. Some toys touted as “educational” are just advertising ploys to get consumers to buy them. And they outgrow them so fast…

I bought toys that were both fun and educational. Keep in mind that babies/kids (and even most adults) learn best through playing/hands-on activities. So, the more they are able to explore (ex: cause and effect, shapes, textures), the more they can learn. :)

Hope that helps.

smwat03 @ 3:40 am:

All the educational toys they have are fun. Our daughter is almost 4 months and we have a list of all the edu. toys that we want to get her when she gets old enough, they look so fun to us and were adults.
