What are some good educational toys for a 2 year old girl?

Question by Cmeyer: What are some good educational toys for a 2 year old girl?
My daughter is going to be two in May. I am wondering what would be some good educational toys for her. I have been looking but most of what I have been seeing is for infants and toys that she would get bored of. She likes things that make noise. Right now she is into drawing and organizing. She likes pushing things around. She is really into baby dolls right now. I got her one and some accessories to go with. I am just wondering what educational. I a curious what your child at this age likes or liked and also what are some toys to avoid? Thanks!

My 2 year old daughter LOVES books: especially Dr. Seuss and ABC books.

She LOVES her leapfrog fridge phonics toy, too, and knows all her letters.

Coloring and drawing are definitely educational, as well as pretend-play.

Mine has an Elmo laptop, but she doesn’t like it as well as mommy’s computer, since mine has more buttons and a bigger screen. It’s a decent toy, but the noises are pretty annoying.

Mine also loves her fisher price little people house.

Playdough is also good for making shapes, recognizing colors, and fine motor control. It’s a bit messy, but so much fun to do together.

Leap Frog alphabet game!! It has all kinds of games and is easy to use. Its also great for long car rides because its not too big and it has a handle. My 2 yr old daughter got one for Christmas this year and still loves it, plus she knows all her letters! GREAT toy for a 2 yr old!

I would recommend anything Leapfrog. A couple that come to mind are the Leapfrog Fridge Phonics Magnetic Letter Set and the Leapfrog Alphabet Explorer. Here is a link to all Leapfrog toys that are appropriate for a 2 year old-

Vtech also makes a toddler laptop. I don’t have it but it looks like it got good reviews and it would be educational-

I believe it is for ages 18 months to 3 years.

My son likes his Little People Animal Sounds Farm. I would recommend that highly. Great for learning animal sounds and names and for speech (saying in, out, up, down).

At age 2 my daughter LOVED guitars so we bought her some inexpensive child-size ones that we found at garage sales. If she likes things that make noise, check out other appropriate musical instruments – a small keyboard, xylophone (one that comes with a mini-music book so you can learn songs, too), bongo drums, maracas, etc.

This is such a fun age. Enjoy it!
