Preferable toys that challenge the mind and also help development.

Four months old is far, far, far too young to worry about challenging minds. A simple mobile hung over the crib is quite enough. Baby is starting to learn about his own body and his immediate environment – watch him: except when he’s sleeping, he’s learning – and you don’t need toys for that to occur. He’ll play with his own feet. He’ll explore with his hands. He’ll gaze questioningly at the faces hovering over him and follow simple movements with his eyes. He’ll respond to sounds by turning his head towards them. He’ll respond to sudden loud noises with an obvious startle reflex, and of course, he is in the process of learning how to get his most basic needs met – you’ll soon learn to recognize his “Feed Me!” cry, his “Change Me!” cry, and his “I’m Lonely!” wail.
That’s the stage of development he and his brain are at. Asking for more than this is both futile and indicative of an embarrassing lack of knowledge about child rearing. But don’t feel too bad; virtually all new parents have to learn by doing…on-the-job training.
Good luck with your new child – but don’t make the horrible mistake of pushing too hard. Growing up is a process that can’t be rushed. Your baby is just beginning that long, long process…

Amelia @ 9:25 pm:

hi my daughter is 5months and iv found the toys that she loves are fisher price or playskool they have colour and textures and you can choose which ones you buy for the stages of learning! Of course children need toys!!! Books are also great at this age and reading a bedtime story is very valuable in development. they dont even need to be really baby books they just listen to the accent and changes in your voice and tone. But the best thing is stuff around the house talk to you babe all the time even if its just washing up or folding laundry give them stuff the hold of different textures good luck x
