How long does it take to be a master chess player?

I am aspiring to become a master chess player, I know it takes alot practice and tournaments. I have been at this 2 to 3 years so I consider myself a new player. I play 3-5 games a day (practice with friends, online, etc), I read chess books, and I'm in my school chess club. Do you think I have bee at this enough to enter a national tournament later in the year?

I need an answer immediately. I'm participating for a chess competition in my school. So, I must win the game and I'll need the best strategy. My teacher said that we must have strategy while playing chess and I don't know what it is. This is my second time participating in a chess competition and during my first time, I lost. I really really want to win this and need anybody's help. So, to those who have experience in participating or always playing chess or expert in chess or…whatever. Teach me how. Thank you.

Chess is an excellent educational game for children. Learning how to play chess is a very important skill to learn at an early age. You can start teaching chess to children as young as 5 years old. Basically educational games such as chess teaches you skills on concentration and sharpens the mind because of the thousands and thousands of different moves that can be made. Most importantly it creates an analytical way of thought which is very important for younger people to learn for as you will use this in very important decision making throughout life. I know chess is old school but it is one board game to add to other educational games in your collection.

So here is a description of Rumis board game. There'll be no stone left unturned in this challenging strategy game Inspired by Incan architecture, RUMIS (meaning "stones") sharpens spatial awareness and critical thinking skills as players strategize to outwit their opponents while reconstructing historical Incan structures (pyramid, tower, stairs, and wall). Each player receives eleven Rumis stones of one color. Players begin, one stone at a time, strategically placing their stones to prevent opponents from having the most visible colored stones. The player with the most stones visible from above wins! When children become 13 and older it is hard to find good educational games that will keep their attention. These days teenagers are interested in taking on the phone and text messaging. How can you get your child interested in great educational games such as Chess, Blokus, and Monopoly? Well the way to get them interested is to buy them and play with them. Kids are interested in what they think their parents are interested in and show interest in spending time with them. For instance my daughter is 14 and still likes to play a game of Trouble with her parents because we played this with her as a child.

You want educational games that will be fun and talk to them on a social level or games that will make them think? So as a parent what kid of games are interesting to you? What about Trivial Pursuit or Yatzee. Do you remember playing these educational games as child. One of the best games I enjoyed growing up was Chess. Chess involves using specific strategies and figuring out your opponents next move. Most of the classic games have some lessons that you can use if your using them for tutoring. Great Math games include: Blokus, Rumis, Shut the Box, Battleship, Yahtzee, Cribbage and Chess.

If you are looking for educational games for a specific subject then their great games for geography called Risk or Ticket to ride. A really neat history game is called the great Dalmutti which teaches social classes. There are also some really good learning games offered by various companies that will help you with specific areas of need. There is also a great educational game called "create a story" that works well for students with writing difficulties. All of these games are fun,educational, and interesting.

How do you make educational board games for sixth graders? Board games are kinda out of style since the invention of the psp's, xbox's and the wii but educational board games can be fun if constructed with color, intrigue and interest.

There is a wealth of information about board games on BoardGameGeek.com. So I did a cursory search for games marked as "Educational" published since 2000, and here are some results:

In addition, a couple of games that I like very well which teach good spatial reasoning skills:

Blokus - Players attempt to get rid of all of their pieces by playing them on a grid. The only key is that a player's pieces must be placed so they touch at least one corner of one of their existing pieces, but cannot touch one of their own pieces along a face. Teaches visualization, strategy, and tactics. A very fun game that can be enjoyed by young and old. Available at mass merchants such as Target.

Rumis - Players are again getting rid of pieces by adding them to the board.. but the pieces in this one are three-dimensional. Players are placing pieces onto the board, but must place the pieces so that they touch at least one of their other pieces along a face. Teaches visualization, strategy, and tactics. A very fun game that can be enjoyed by young and old. Available at mass merchants such as Target.

Ubongo - Players have a set of "tetris" pieces, and are given a series of puzzle boards where the player must make the selected pieces fit within the figure before the timer runs out. Teaches visualization, strategy, and tactics. A very fun game that can be enjoyed by young and old. Available at specialty game stores.
