Financial Aid | Browsing Over The Pell Grant Qualifications

The federal Pell Grant provides financial aid to students with low incomes. They were designed to help needy students obtain their degrees. The federal Pell Grant Programs provide students with up to $5,500 each year as of 2010. This amount may increase in the future. Undergraduate students and some post-baccalaureate students are eligible for this type of financial aid. The grant amounts depend on the your EFC or expected family contribution, the fees for attending the school, whether you are attending school full-time or part-time, and whether you attend school for a whole academic year or less. Students cannot receive Federal Pell Grants from multiple schools at one time.

The US Department of Education will look at your income and determine if you qualify for the federal Pell Grant Program. They will also look at the income your family receives if you are a dependent. If your family has a total income of $50,000 or less, you may qualify for the program. However, typically, federal Pell Grants are awarded to students with family incomes of $20,000 or less. If you are a dependent, the United States Department of Education will look at your parent’s income, assets, basic living expenses and such. Be careful, as there are still other Pell Grant qualifications you must take into account if you don’t want to receive a quick denial by the Department of Education.

You can only be awarded this grant if you attend a school that participates in the Federal Pell Program. If you qualify for this award, your school will credit the funds to your school account or pay you directly with a check. Some institutions use a combination of these two methods. Your school must disperse the funds of this award program once each term- semester, trimester, and quarter. If your school does not use these terms, they must pay you twice a year. You can apply for the this grant by completing the FAFSA. Make sure you submit the application early and before the due date. If you plan to attend college in September, your FAFSA will be due by the end of June. If you want to find out more about this amazing grant program, you should not hesitate to go ahead and contact your school’s financial aid department, and in particular your own financial aid counselor. They should give you the specific advice you need to get an approval, and remember not hold back any questions you may have.
