caldem, i also went to a private college, on scholarships and luck and working up to 3 jobs. and yes, i'm grateful for the financial aid available. my husband and my sister went to UC berkeley, both working themselves through, with financial aid.
the point here is that financial aid is not keeping up. and the costs are so high now that no student can get by without very serious financial help. my parents contributed $2000 to my post-high school education, and then i was on my own. and in my day, i could get by without enormous loans. that is not really true now.

Hm…as I researched most of these schools, I found out that they DON'T offer need-based financial aid for international students.
Moreover, I think that 1/5 of the total cost covered is too little for us, so there is no point to include schools, offering, let's say, 1/4 or 1/3 financial aid. After all, I think(I'm not sure) that $10000-$15000 is quite unaffordable ;(

I am sorry to hear about your financial aid struggles, I totally know what you are dealing with as that is what my education has been entirely funded on.
I am not sure if this is an option, but have you thought about deferring for a semester until the fall? This way you would be eligible for other financial aid opportunities and you would have more time to apply for scholarships and grants. I am not sure how financial aid works at Georgetown, but I am over at Johns Hopkins and they were willing to let me defer for a semester so I would be eligible for more financial aid from the school and government.
I know that's not the best option, but if it is possible to do, it may open more financial aid opportunities.
Good Luck and I hope it all works out for you!

With an EFC of 0, that means you are eligible for the maximum amount in pell grants. This year, the max is $5,550 for the year. Some schools have start up grants for your first year at their college. States usually have individual grants to hand out.
The best way to receive the maximum amount in free money is to apply for financial aid early. If you apply back in March or April, they can award you more money because you are amongst the first to be awarded, therefore more money is available.
Be careful with loans. You'll have to pay them all back and then some. Try to only use these if you absolutely need to.
Ask your financial aid office about work study. They can award you grant money that you can earn by working on campus a few hours a week.
Best thing to do is talk to your financial aid office and hear your best options. Always apply early and accept all your grant money, as it's free and you don't have to pay it back.
Best of luck!
