It was originally designed to promote the creation of millions of new jobs, and fund needy individuals that were going to make a difference in the near-term future. The reason this program is not working is that most of the change that will occur is not on the immediate front but will happen years or decades from now.
While the stimulus package has provided many benefits that have helped millions of people, there is the possibility that it could lead to a detrimental end. If more people do not take the money that they received seriously and achieve the goals that have been prescribed, this money could end up being wasted and our country could be the result of a gigantic mistake.
Fortunately, there is hope at the end of this dark financial tunnel. Many people are using this free cash to earn college degrees that will help them get the new and upcoming jobs that have been created with this money. There is great hope that the people that receive this training will maintain their new careers on a long-lasting basis that will lead toward a more stable economy and tax base that will help us all recover from this recession that we are in.
Single mothers are on the forefront of receiving this funding for college because they represent people that have a need and have shown that they have the diligence to persevere regardless of the situations that they are presented. If you are in financial straits or you are a single parent that is looking to make a dramatic change in your economic situation, using this money can help you not only achieve your dreams our country but help our country at the same time.
The first thing you need to do in order to see what scholarships, grants, or financially for school that you can qualify for beginners with setting up a meeting with your college or financial advisor at your local university. By doing so, you will be on the fast track to not only setting up the path your life will take for the next few years to achieve the degree that you need, but you also tap into the federal stimulus package money that you can qualify for and use toward your education.

It's scary how expensive college in the US is. I'm lucky because I went to a private uni. with great financial aid packages. If it weren't grants, financial aid, and such, I'd be more than $160,000 in debt. *screams* But, luckily, I don't even have to deal with 1/10 of that amount. I didn't even work while in uni. Private uni. offer students better deals than public ones more often than one would think.

financial aid works by giving out grants for college, because it is a government type grant, you don't have to pay it back. Just get it done quickly, because the quicker you do it, the more money there will be for you.

There are two things that I want to mention here:
First, how you file (and whether your parents claim you) has no effect on your ability to file as independent for financial aid purposes. They look at a completely different set of criteria to determine whether you can file as an independent. The criteria are pretty strict, and you must meet at least one of them. When they ask that set of questions about whether you were born before 1998, or were a veteran, or married (see link below for full list), those are to determine whether you can file as an independent.
I understand how hard it is, and not everyone has parents who can or will help pay for college, so I urge you to talk to your college (or potential college's) financial aid office for more information on paying for college.
Second, and really a side note, you don't have to let your parents claim you on their tax return if they're not taking care of you for at least half the year you're filing for. It may be something that you've decided on together, but if you don't want them to claim you, you can check on your return that no one is eligible to claim you. You don't even need to get their input, but it'd be nice to let them know.

Default happens when you are 270 days or more delinquent on your student loan payments. the loan will get sent to a collection agency where they can garnish your wages. if you have never been delinquent on any payments you don't have to worry about default.

Financial aid includes grants, loans, and scholarships. Most places do not include scholarships into any estimated financial aid as it will vary on who actually gets the scholarship as only a few people get certain ones. Most likely they are saying that for those schools most people get $7,000 in financial aid including the pell grant, other grants, and loans. Its easy to get the average amount of aid just be middle class. If your parents make a lot of money you'll get a lot less. If they make very little money you'll be able to get more (up to the maximum amount the school will allow you to have).
