Financial Aid | Guaranteed College Scholarships – Is There Any Way To Make Sure You Get Financial Aid?
At this time of the year, there are thousands of people all over the country that are thinking about college. And of course the thought of how can I afford college and what are my choices is probably on most of their minds.
One of the first things that you might think of when thinking of how to pay for college is a grant. Grants are a great way to pay for college since you don’t have to pay them back. Another option if the grant isn’t enough to cover everything is a loan. There are also scholarships that are available. Sometimes students might not realize that there are guaranteed college scholarships available.
When you hear the word scholarship, you might tend to think of certain scholarships where you have to meet certain requirements in order to go for the scholarship. When you apply for scholarships there can be a lengthy application process but well worth the wait if you can get the money for college from the scholarship. Sometimes they have competitions and things for students to try to get the scholarships. And not to mention the scholarships do not have to be paid back.
Even though in reality there are no guaranteed college scholarships, you can improve your chances enormously by applying for the right scholarships.
As long as you apply for a scholarship related to what you want to study or related to your achievements or needs your chances of getting one are increased by a huge amount.
The criteria for receiving a college scholarships is usually determined by the following. If you have minority status, or your ACT, GPA or SAT scores or yet again if you are unable to pay for college and need financial help in which case you apply for a needs based scholarship.
Applying for the wrong type will just end in refusal. You can also apply for multiple scholarships and there are good reasons to do so. Say for example your course costs $10,000 and the scholarship s for $5,000. You are going to need more than one scholarship or a scholarship and several grants. Applying for several will give you more chances of success and more money to pay for your course but remember, there is no such thing as a guaranteed scholarship.
Regardless of what type of scholarship you are going to apply for make sure you apply for financial aid. College expenses can add up pretty fast and the cost of your education can be very expensive so it’s good to have your bases covered and ensure you secure your future with a degree.

You have to reapply for financial aid every year… so it "starts over" every time you do that. One year a person may qualify for grants and another year they may not. The same is true for state aid.

I consider myself a professional as well. I'm schlepping around trying to make my novels a paying job, but in this economy when you're a bit outside the stringent lines of genre…well then. Not such an easy task. But I try to write the cleanest prose I can, an entertaining story, memorable characters. I'm not a financial aid advisor who writes; I'm a writer who works as a financial aid advisor to pay the bills. Therein lies the most important distinction, I think.
Good post, Kait, as always.

There are many scholarship opportunities out there that you may be eligible for you will be surprised. My advice to you is to apply for more than one scholarship, and use more than one scholarship search. Good Luck. I went to college for free, so can you.
