Although a lot in preschool is play based learning, some preschools have other activities they do where the kids are learning actual lessons.
One advantage of preschool that I think is the most important is learning how to be around other kids and moving from side-by-side playing to iterative playing.
It really is a joy to see how much the children grow over the school year and see how much they really did learn. If you are going to put the child in a play date that may help, but having preschool full time by the time when they are 4-5 years old I think is important, the ones who are full time in my class are much further along than the ones that are half day and the ones who joined halfway into the school year. When I say further along I mean in social skills with peers and adults, better memorization skills, recognition, and problem solving skills.
I am pro home school, but I think a lot of the things kids learn at preschool will not be learned at home school.

to make an outline just think of the classes you are going to take at home and write them down,. they just what to know you have a firm grasp of what you want to accomplish this year so they know you're not just blowing it off to get out of school. second, look at different types of curriculum's such as Abekah or Bob Jones. those are two main curriculum's used by home schoolers. when you choose the one you like the best that's the one you write down in your list of supposed curriculum's. as for not being able to find a program that'll except you in the middle of the year, my best advice i can give you is since this year is almost over, that you try to go at it on your own for the last two months. one it solves your problems, and two it'll help you know if home schooling is really for you.
